top cabrio list (Forbes)

Not surprisingly, the smart cabrio made the Forbes list for top convertibles, for its economy:

Just FYI. Note: there seems to be some confusion on the MSRP...

Seems to be some confusion on the fuel consumption, too. I've never gotten as bad as 28mpg.

(heh... remember when 28mpg was "good?")

Even soft-tops are much improved. The MINI Cooper convertible, runner-up in the fuel-efficient category, has a function that allows the power-operated top to stretch out halfway overhead, acting like a sunroof.

wow - how utterly ingenious of those MINI engineers.

Actually this kind of top (huge cloth sliding sun roof) has been around a long time in europe.... just somewhat newish over here in the USA.

I'm kind of confused how the "best value" car has an MSRP nearly 3x the smart, but... and the 28/36 number is bogus. Even smart lists the EPA rating as 31/44. I've got a cabrio, and the lowest I saw in a year of driving (66 tanks and 15k later) has been 33mpg.

I can't believe anything that article says.
They had the Chrysler Sebring on a "Best Of" list.
Forbes should stick to money issuses, they seem to know nothing about cars.

Why are you guys being confused about the numbers cited?

Quote:
Most Fuel-Efficient: Smart Fortwo Cabriolet
City/Highway miles per gallon: 33/41
MSRP: $16,990

Runner-up: MINI Cooper Convertible
City/Highway MPG: 28/36
MSRP: $24,550
It clearly cites the smart's EPA numbers and costs as 33/41 and $16,990 (both right) AND then the runner-up Mini Cooper's numbers as 28/36 and $24,550, again both right. The 28/36 wasn't a reference to the smart, it's to the Mini Cooper. Why is this confusing?

[Note: I added a space between the smart's and mini's numbers to make it clearer]

What I find confusing is how a car costing nearly $8k more is considered a better value...
