"The fortwo gets its fair share of flak for not being as economical as you'd expect, but in terms of cost per MPG it's hard to beat. It's not as cheap as some in this list, but those extra few MPG here and there means it could be a little cheaper in the long run. If you don't need more than two seats (and you're okay with the image...) it's the best value car here."
That's got to rank as one of the dumbest comparisons yet . They merely took base prices and didn't consider anything else . Virtually nobody wants a car that stripped down , you may as well just sell a bare shell with a motor in it , some of the other cars would need to be ordered to get one at that price . . Anyone who goes to buy a car based on that unresearched article will be in for sticker shock not to mention when they find out what the fuel is going to cost them . I feel sorry for any buyer that takes that story seriously.

Though I am one of the guys that ALWAYS buys the strippies they list in the paper for low money as a loss-leader (manual transmission, roll-up windows and manual door locks -- for $1500 bucks I can roll up my own window thank you), I agree with you. The smart has such low utility, that if you factor the number of people you are moving per mile, the premium gas etc. it suddenly doesn't look so good. It's cute though... or as Jwight likes to call it a 'premium' microcar (LOL) -- just don't call it cheap!
