The Eloi are NEVER going to understand decoupling business process and technology and trying to get them to just makes them whine and call us (IT Idiots) names.

I recommend putting an option on all online ordering forms that would give customers the option to submit their order now or wait for six months. Nobody would use it but then, if anybody tried to hold you accountable for anything, you could just say "Hey, you COULD have taken your time but NOOOOO, YOU had to select the "I WANT IT NOW" button!"

No, if I had to offer a guess at this point, I'd have to lean toward FredVon's incompetence theory.

I'm nothing if not patient. Sometimes it helps if I understand why I am waiting and so far all the speculation I have heard is nonsense.

My best guess as to why you are waiting is that the factory cannot produce the requested number of cars faster than 30,000 per year for the US market.

They took your money and color request when you paid, they don't want the rest of the information until they are ready to build your car.

I hope they are competently building each car in order.

Well spdickey I tend to think you deliberately want to be argumantative...

You response to Snake is gibberish..IMO. What does the timing of the second step "confirmation" have to do with the manufacturing side?

Can you suggest why, IB and PAG having all 30,000 configuration confirmations completed on Dec 31, in any way impacts the production of the cars?

Apparently smart has no need of 10,000 reservations right now... guess they are sending them out as fast as they need them.

With 30,000 cars produced for 2008 that's about 500 confirmations needed per week. Seems like that is about how many they are sending out.

I don't see the case that they need any more than that right now, even if IT can handle it. Sure they can backlog the system as you described, question is, why should they? Just to raise expectations that cars will become available sooner? You got to wait for the car to come off the line no matter how fast they process confirmations. I think it would be prudent to request as many confirmations as you can produce.

Who is the latest to receive confirmation.
Anyone know? I'm like most here, I want my smart as soon as possible and yes I wish we were given more current info. however, the unexpected success may play a part of the problem. And if unaddressed it will cause furter problems like disgruntled potential customers.

Hi fellas...This is the buyer who had checkbook in hand , heading to Honda dealer to buy a Fit. I am still not certain but hangin in there for the Smart...expecially since I found out from you that I am only 20 or so people behind the head of the line. It was the lack of info that was killing me. Don't start fighting now...Make up...Rethink the kiss. Thanks to all of you.
