Wired Magazine 2008 Car of the Year!

I just received their Best for 2008 issue and smart takes first place in the automobile category beating out the Fit, Prius, Scion, Versa, etc. Here are some quotes.

"It's the most honest car on the road - two seats, four wheels, zero pretensions. No phony rear seats, no attempt to ease the aesthetic shock by trying to ape a conventional sedan. The smart fortwo, the first truly modern microcar to arrive in the US, scrambles ashore with the irrepressible glee of a two year old. It is absolutley confident it will win you over. And with unmatchable urban maneuverability, praiseworthy gas mileage, and startling safety credentials, it more than earns the love.

For a teensy little car, the fortwo is one tough mother - Shut your mouth!

This is no golf cart. The fortwo will hit 90 mph with nary a complaint.

The big wheels, competent suspension, and automated transmission make it fun to drive."

I find the statement "big wheels" interesting. Maybe our perspective that the wheels are too small is wrong?

Big wheels!

I was actually initially surprised that 15" wheels were standard on the Passion, and up to 17" were available - lot of rubber for a tiny car!

Very interesting Carnut....I'm almost convinced. I read a much earlier review somewhere suggesting electric power steering and wider wheels made it a super car. I'm trying to configure now...what to do, what to do. Emailed Smart for a couple of answers and then may be off and running with this thing. Many thanks for info.

Wider wheels are always a good thing for handling, although I've heard the power steering really isn't necessary for driving the car (indeed it may take away from feeling the road), just for parking it!

I just got my Automobile Feb 2008 issue in the mail. There is test drive on page 64 to page 69. A lot of pictures. Interesting article, they drive it from Phoenix to Grand Canyon and back for a 650 miles round trip.

Wow! Interesting how narrow minded some people are, they even seem hostile about the smart. I guess if they dont like it they can buy something else.
Looks like people will love it or hate it.

This car represents everything against what they drive. One writer said the gas prices will fade. WRONG! This is no fad. This is necessary......a wake up call. Smart is the first but won't be the last......I believe it!
