Torque *how* much?

Just checking, Clyde... You said to put "about 50 lbs." of torque on the two bolts, right? These are the same size bolts used in E-class Benz rear brake calipers, and IIRC they're called at 85 ft-lbs or 115 Newton-meters...

Torque is a function of the fastener size. I forget how large the bolt is that requires an E18 socket, but it's not a small fastener, and I routinely torque the nuts on Crosby wire rope clips to fit 1/2" aircraft cable (7/8" socket) to 65 ft-lbs. They're smaller than the E18 fastener in question...

Perhaps one of the forum members who works at a dealership can check the OEM engine torque link bolt torque value and report back; I'd bet a fair chunk that it's more than 50 ft-lbs., and that's a pair of bolts that you *DO NOT* want coming loose accidentally.

Just trying to help.

83 to 85 ft. lbs. for a M12 x 10.9 grade bolt would be my recommendation

Clyde and Boris, GREAT VIDEO for the shade tree mechanic in all of us!

While the recommended torque may be a little suspect for such a critical part, the picture and sound clarity of your video is worthy of an Academy Award nomination!

Looking forward to more in your series of smart DIY projects.

Thanks,

Tom

Roger that! Great series; I've enjoyed both of the ones I've seen so far. Keep 'em coming.

Thanks Barney, I guess I heard wrong in KS when you said I was so buff I could manage with 50-60lbs. I will update the video and call up customers for a reinspection and retorque of the mount.

Bob Diaz, video looks great.

Why you need to wedge the engine to the new mount this should aligned just the factory one.... do you think the symetric of the engine will affect the performance and logivity life of the parts just intalled?

When you take the factory mount out the motor will rotate some due to uneven balance of the hanging engine and trans.
