Hmm, so you don't have to remove the oil drain plug all of the way?

For the initial draining - no - and it helps to control the flow 'down' instead of arching off to the side. Once the flow lessened, the drain plug came out.

WOW, thank you very much. Those pictures will be helpful. I wish a smart dealership with the right kind of lift was close by. I am going to a Mercedes dealership that is closer (only 35 miles). Do they have those special lifts also?

Don't be surprised if a Mercedes dealership doesn't have the 'same' lift unit even if they're also selling smarts. If they were "properly prepped" to service the smarts, one would think that would include an extra small smart lift with proper lift platforms. Not necessarily true across the board.

If they are a smart dealership, at least one of the service techs should have had the service training - ask if that tech will be doing the oil change/service (one would think so) - but sometimes the oil changes are automatically deferred to the 'newbies.' If nothing else, the smart-trained tech should welcome the opportunity to do even the basic items...ala oil changes...to get more contact with the cars and simple experience.

Let us know how it goes - and see if you can get pictures too.

Ok!! I will. This dealership does not sell smarts. My closest smart dealership is 100 miles away.

Meaux

Just wondering why you are changing the oil so soon?

I thought I saw someone mention doing that here... I am almost up to 3,000 miles on my car and I haven't had the oil changed yet... I guess I should look into it...
