Also, I have seen other universal kits that have a number of adjustments. What I am curious about are 1) How far the door is allowed to open before it needs to go vertical and 2) how far it can be rotated to the up position before it stops. Do these adjustments exist?

*concerns about the bracket that was modified.
we do extensive research before releasing any of our kits. We have determine that our mounting bracket (4.9" x 2.6" x .5" ASTM A36 steel) is strong enough to support the weight of the door. the hinge it self is composed of 3/8" steel and 1/2" steel (more than enough for the light door of the Smart car), with heat treated steel on pivot points.

your stock door has a stopping point before it swings out all the way. our kit opens about the first stopping point before it can go up.
*how far it can be rotated to the up position before it stops?
the stooping point on the vertical position has been predetermine by us because of the antenna on the driver's side.
the kits do have adjustments to fine tune the kit, but since it is a Direct bolt-on kit made for the Smart 451 you really do not need a lot of adjustments.
PLEASE NOTE: OUT KITS ARE MADE FOR THE SMART 451. Universal kits are not and as you may have notice the smart it's not your typical car.
It's very hard to install a universal kit on a normal car but on a Smart car it will be a nightmare!!
