My reservation no. was 1229 (May 12, 2007) confirmation Jan 2, 2008. Since confirmation I have heard nothing from smartusa, haven't even received the newsletters. I've called Penske and they acknowledge it will be in the first half of the year.
Any communication would be better than what I have gotten so far.
My car will be delivered at smartcenter Lincolnwood, IL. I did have the Charlotte, NC dealer tell me they are getting about 40 cars a month now so maybe things are picking up.
My 2001 Accent just passed the 185K mark and is about due for replacement, it has been a great commuter at 35-39mpg with virtually no problems

I remember last mid-November the confirmation process quickly dropped out, then around Nov 30 the process started up again. I'm wondering if we will see the same sort of thing happen with deliveries. The 90 day window has come and gone for me unless, of course, those are 90 working days which would then put me into the end of April until I might expect any news. The last I spoke with Smart (a few days ago) the rep would not acknowledge that a system was in place for Smart to notify anybody. I was told "You will have to contact your dealer to get delivery information". let's hope that statement was incorrect.
I'd say most of us expect Smart to drop the ball. I've always been an optimist so I'll say yes it will be there tommorrow afternoon...as fangorn0 posted...at www.smartusa.com as DDE or Delivery Date estimator. Throw the dice.
Ok, I'm an "1190." I reserved April 4, 2007 and configured November 21, 2007 a passion coupe with everything, $16225 after delivery. On March, 11, 2008 I got an email stating that my car had shipped. On March 26, 2008 I got an email stating that my car had arrived at US port and would be arriving at my dealership (Bloomington) in the next couple weeks. Almost exactly 1 year from reservation to delivery, and a hair over 4 months Configuration to Delivery. Unfortunately, during this time, too many negatives started popping up and I started to look at the alternatives. I could get a Yaris 3 door 5 spd w/power pack for $11600 brand new (special deal at a dealership I used to work at). I could get a Honda Fit Sport manual for about $15905. But I've been really looking hard at the Scion xD lately... For $15820 with the 5 speed manual, the optional Vehicle Stability Control, standard "everything you need" (Plus an actual iPod jack through which you can control your iPod via the steering wheel) and still gets about 34 mpg which you can track on the standard trip computer without the need of a scanguage (some people report getting over 40 when trying hard or cruising on long trips)... Plus, it's only 4 feet longer, has a great back seat which can be slid back for TONS of leg room, or slid forward then folded flat for unreal cargo space... I'm having a hard time deciding what to do. None of these options have the unique factor the smart does. But they ALL have a piece of mind factor the smart can't touch.
So, based on all of that, what is the "best" decision? I know that's still a very personal decision, but... I need to make my decision in the next 3 weeks as my "30 day decision window" started last Wednesday.
