Just to clarify - the Charleston dealership (I've been told) already has their three demos, so the eight should be free and clear for those who've reserved. You can still hope that one of those is yours!

Charleston

I visited Baker Motors yesterday and indeed there are three smarts sitting outside. They were not expecting delivery of those three and believe them to be demo's. They still have no information on reservation deliveries. They are finishing construction very soon and expect to open for business Monday, 3/24. At that time they expect the smart rep that approves the showroom to provide reservation lists and hopefully delivery information. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I went ot NC and got my orphan. I am 4 months ahead of schedule. If I lived in the lowcountry I would go to Charlotte and by the time you need service Charleston will be open.

Congratulations, you were "smart"! What was the process, did you put yourself on the list and they contacted you when your name came up, or did you just travel there and get lucky? I've read on this forum that many people are passed up regardless of having been placed on the list, and I figured I'd just be wasting my time doing so. How is Charlotte dealership to work with?

Quick note on my trip to Asheville. The long grade from Columbus/Tryon to Hendersonville was no prob. The smart kept up with the pack by going from 5th to 4th in the auto mode. As far as the steep dirt road our cabin is on that's another story. The car goes up and down fine - however - in going up you better not stop because its low weight wouldn't allow it to get a bite on the road. The wheels started to spin. So it's all or nothing. Once you start up you better not have to stop! Driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway is a lot of fun. Many, many people look and ask about the car constantly.

I talked with Partick Gazely at Baker Motors this morning. They are not officially open; they hope to open by the end of the week. They have not received the blessing from PAG yet. They do not have any information on any cars for us reservists (sic).

So we'll just have to keep waiting.

Followed this thread with interest ...

as we just came back from Charleston and I snapped this photo on 3/25 (it looked like they just put up their sign as the forklift was still in place). No one was around but the cars were inside. This was our first trip to your area (stayed in Asheville a few days then the rest in Charleston); we just rec'd word our smart will be arriving in 2 to 4 weeks (Chicago area, sorry). The building looks as close to being finished as it can be; the wife liked the blue-gray SL outside the MBZ showroom next-door but will be quite happy once she has her hands on the new Passion Coupe. Hope they open soon for y'all!

Heading back to Chas, SC on Tues. and I will miss these mtns. In order to keep up my rpm's on some of these twisties on the mtn roads I used the paddle shifters and stick quite a bit. It is fun got to say. Quite a different feeling in driving experience (Asheville) from the lowcountry of South Carolina. Our mtn. road, which is stone and gravel, gave the smart a few spueaks here and there but that was cured by some silicone spray.
