I was lucky enough to speak to Ms. Baranco, dealership manager. She immediately inquired about the date of my smart reservation: 03/27/07. Then she exclaimed that my vehicle would be not too far down the line, maybe a month or 6 weeks! She said it might already be at the port!
Seems smart only divulges the names of reservation holders to the dealerships about thirty days in advance of delivery, so she did not have my records yet.
The dealership was set to open last Friday, the 15th, but the smart folks had some construction/design/execution issues to be corrected. The punch list was not too long, nothing too major, and Ms. Baranco was kind enough to give me a tour of the still under construction showroom.
It is clear that the Penske folks will guard this brand and its representation very closely. The showroom felt unlike any auto showroom I had ever visited before, cool, airy, light, bright yellow color accents. The showroom will accommodate 3 smart vehicles and the dealership will have 2 vehicles designated for test drives by appointment only.
Ms. Baranco has also sourced several different designs for wheels and the Mercedes accessories person will be available to stripe and enhance your new smart.
I was very impressed with the courtesy, enthusiasm and professionalism afforded me while at the dealership. Those folks are going to have a lot of fun with these cars. And, I feel the ownership experience will be wonderful.
A transfer truck pulled up outside the dealership just as I was leaving. On it were 10 smart vehicles, all waiting for their new owners. It looked like blue was a popular color.
