Hello Russ, nice photo! I wonder who the outstanding photographer was that took that picture???
Kristin,
I was trying to decide if it was the car, the model, or the photographer that created the "nice photo". You were so nervous that day that I have a hunch that the camera deserves much of the credit.
Nice to see that you have delievered 17, but that dilutes my favorite line that I tell all the lookers at the malls - "this is the first one in the state of TN".
I'll be seeing you in a couple weeks to pick up my floor mats. So far I've about 550 miles logged and by then should be able to travel I-40 at "SPEED".......
Russ, how does the car behave on I-40 with all those trucks coming into Knoxville?
Jason, I live South of Nashville and so far only have accumulated about 550 miles of country and city driving. I drove back from Knoxville on two lanes to avoid high, steady rpm's. My driving since has been 99% on local two lanes. Maybe three times it's gone 10 miles on I-24 and flat bed trucks kind of move it, but not as much as cross winds.
By the time I go back to MB of Knoxville I should be at 1000 mi. and plan on I-40 for my return - wish it had cruise control.
Hopefully, when more and more people start getting their smarts (lol), maybe someone might start a little club here in Tennessee.

Do I really have to wait 10 months for my ?
Hi Jason,
That would be great for someone would start a little "smart" club in TN and maybe it could be headquartered in Knoxville since that's where the dealership is located. Maybe the smart center Knoxville could be the location???
Maybe I can offer some input on how the car handles on I-40 with all the semi's because I drive a demo periodically and for test drives and I can tell you it handles very well. I thought it would be buffeted from the drafts, but it only slightly moves the front end of the car. I had it to 80 MPH today traveling on I-40 behind a semi and felt very comfortable, then I passed the semi with very little buffeting effects. I've driven the car during a torrential downpour and through standing water and it stays true to its course, never pulling or straying to one side. This car also handles curvy roads very well and the headlights are SO bright! I love how it lights up the dark roads.
We are going to take the cars to the Chattanooga Audi/Jag dealer for a display/demo day on Thursday afternoon, March 13. I'm trying to contact some of the customers who have received their cars and want to bring them to the dealership to show them off.

Thanks Kristin! Considering my job will be a 93 mile commute one-way (in Lebanon, TN) , I wanted to make sure them 18-wheelers ain't gonna blow me away. I'm currently in a Bug and I drive conservatively so I'm used to the 18-wheelers flying by at 80mph.
I'm torn. I love my Beetle to death so will I love the Smart more?
re: Clubs. Why not? There's LOTS VW clubs, mostly focused on Bugs (old and new) and Type II's (microbus, transporter, Westy, etc.). I've been on cruises with my old 64 Bug as well as in my new 2003 Beetle and it's a BLAST!

Kristen,
Sure "it handles great" she says after getting off her 650cc two wheeler......just like my smart is easier to get in than my Kenworth.....everything is relative. But seriously, it handles much better than I expected, especially on the curvy roads in East TN.
Speaking of headlights Kristen. I like mine too, but a lot of folks flash me since the cut off is so different than the dull lights used in US cars. As part of pre-delievery do the techs check the headlight alignment? I have read a few posts on here that people have been readjusting theirs a little lower for that reason. They have mentioned a turn and a half, so before I wear out the front bonnet latches playing and guessing I thought I'd ask if that was part of the set-up for every smart? If it is I will try the turn and a half.
