Wreck in Birmingham

I just got a telephone call from a Smart owner here in Birmingham and she has (in her words) "totaled" her Smart.

She said that she is battered and brused but she thinks she will be OK. She is being checked at a local hospital.

She said she was rearended by a SUV that left the scene. Her car then struck another car that was stopped in traffic infront of her.

If she will let me, I will take some pictures at the tow yard, but that is totally up to her.

She is a member of the smartcarusainsider and I do not know if she reads this forum.

Mike

Mike
Glad you're planning on respecting her privacy and don't plan on posting photos without her permission.

UPDATE...with pictures

I went to the tow yard to look at and take pictures of the bent Smart.

I met the owner there and she looks good to have just been in a crash.
No injuries other than bruises.

She gave her blessing to the posting of pictures, so here is the link:

I think her Smart is very repairable and not totaled, but that is up to the insurance company. She said that based on how this Smart did in the crash, she wants another one if this one is totaled.

A mess for sure. Best thing is she's OK...it is a car after all...as much as we like them. More important is finding the hit and run driver. That's a big danger having someone like that out there.

It doesn't look all that bad, but it'd be interesting to see what's snapped under that right front side. It's a Cabrio, which means that it might not be all that totalled, if the repairs come in under the value of the car. If it is totalled, that'd be a great car to pick up for parts!

It'll probably go through copart if the insurance company doesn't leave it with the owner.
