09, Red Still Orange, Tranny

We had a chance to look over a batch of 09s yesterday. Here are my first impressions.

1. Colors: On a scale 1-10 current Red being #5. #1 being orange. #10 being bright ,bold red. The 09 red is a #7... The Grays are, just gray, nothing stands out in the the new colors that I saw. (IMO only, and we chose the Yellow last year . )

2. The new shifter will allow one to shift up and down using the paddles while in "D".

We will be configing our 09 this weekend. A2Jack.

Yeah, I was disappointed when I heard about the new colors, really would have been great to see something poppy that fits the saucy Smart like cyan or green or a bright orange. Red being through and through vs painted is a bonus though I guess.

Good to hear about the change to the tranny, although as we always drive in manual mode it is not something that would effect us

YEs I like that new Tranny option......I think the Metallic Grey is a good color.. its a mix between Gunmetal and Silver.

One man's red is another man's orange, and vice versa. Those who can paint, those who can't write big checks to the painter. IMHO, separate function of the paddles and "D" makes sense, it's gonna be a mess if you and the car try to do two different things at once.

I would love to see the new red since I requested a change to the red on my already configured '09 smart. Right now I have the new gray/silver with red interior. I'll be happy with either since I have already seen the gray.

I saw a few of the 09 Smarts tonight, and there is really no real difference to speak of since i had not seen the new colors, but i was told the new red interior is not all that great. The nets for the storage area were not as flimsy as i thought they were, but i really am not that impressed with them either.
On the plus side, the storage area for the owners manual and other goods is now in an enclosed pouch behind the passenger seat rather than that silly net that came in the 08 models. That thing is a pain in the neck when you take the manual in and out of the thing. As for the transmisson, huge improvement. I for one am used to the tranny, but i know that was a sore spot for some

yes...sounds interesting. I wouldn't think it would take it completely out of D. Say you're doing 35-40 in D (and of course its already in 5), so you override with the paddle and downshift to 4....wonder how long it will hold 4th.......will the computer eventually take over and shift back to 5th when necessary?

Does anyone know for sure whether or not the 08 tranny's can be reprogrammed to work like the O9's?
