10,000 miles

Today I reached 10,000 miles on my smart! I only picked it up on February 12th and now I am getting ready for the second oil change (I did 1 at 5,000 miles).

At this rate, I am going to hit 20,000 miles in 1 year!

Sounds like you're winning the race to the warranty finish line.

Hi. I'm a reservation holder since june 4 2008. Still have a long ways to go before I get my little smart. In your 10,000 miles, did you have any problems with your smart? Did the gas mileage change? What about the transmission.... any changes or problems? Thanks.. Bill

Good job

I'm 3800 miles in, and I'm in my 6th week of owning my Smartie. I might get 25,000 miles in my first year of ownership. Fortunately, I have extended warranty.

The only 'major' issue I had was a check engine light (yes, I started a thread here about it) 7 days after I bought the car. Now, that the dealers have had some time to catch up on the codes I might bring it in and have them look at it again.

I tell people that my MPG is 40. I have had as high as 49 (someday 50!) and as low as 35. I still haven't figured out is it different almost everytime I fill up. I am on the brink of buying a ScanGauge II to see if that will help...

The transmission has been fine. I do need to find out about the maintenance on it.

12k here and I'll try to answer some of your questions. Remember our car was among the first NA451s shipped.

All our problems were small, but very irritating. Shifter stuck in park. Alarm go off at 2am in the morning. Brake light switch failed (also locked up shifter again). Passenger seat belt hang ups.

The problems were all fixed promptly, and well by Smart Bloomfield service dept. We have never had any car dealer service as good as this.

Gas mileage just kept getting better during break in, and has been around 46-47 MPG, less with the air con on in the city (39 Mpg +-).

The Trans is still a bit strange, but now that I'm not switching back and forth with my other 5 speed, stick car the trans is becoming more intuitive.

Yes, we would buy another Smart and will order a Silver- White Pure this week with Pods, heated seats and AC.

We will not buy another Passion as the cabin gets too hot without running the AC. To us the paddles are useless and all the rest of the Passion's add ons are overkill. The pure package is quite full. Regards... A2Jack.

Our Passion will get very hot in the sun (when we park it) if we don't leave the windows down somewhat. Our Hondas do, too. We always leave the sunshade pulled forward. At first we thought the a/c was just okay until we turned the center knob to "blow in your face." Then it just about blew our hair back with very cold air. My wife likes the air conditioning on, but when I drive it to work I lock it, but leave the windows down a couple of inches or so and it is quite acceptable when I get in even on a 80+ sunny day.
