2 for 1 Parking?

Whole family came from all over and met for a July birthday dinner last night as most of the family has B-Days in July. There was one parking spot right in the front and it was raining so I pulled forward and let my parents pull in behind me. 2 for 1 parking.

My sisters kept screaming, "That is Illegal!" On the way out there a guy who said he worked for the sheriffs dept. Asked questions about the car, never a peep of two cars in one spot. 2 spots over was a full size 3500 Chevrolet truck - the Smarts took up the same amount of space.

IMO, I don't think it's illegal as both cars are in the lines. Town cops in this town wouldn't mess with me either way as we had dinner in my hometown though I've since moved away - 20 whole miles away.

Horrible camera phone picture:

I don't see how it would be any more unlawful than multiple motercycles in one spot or a truck/trailer taking up multiple spots.

The issue has been covered elsewhere (SF?). In most jurisdiction, it's not illegal to park within the marks, provided the time limitation is observed by all, and the parkmeter fed. But once the time is over, both vehicles would be ticketed.

You are absolutely correct, but the reason is that the parking lot is "private" property and therefore not subject to parking laws which only cover "public" lands

We went there as a family - drove in at the same time. Ate together - left at the same time. No inconvenience.

Now if I saw another Smart in a parking lot parked all the way forward and pulled in behind them and boxed them in - inconvenient. Same goes for club meets - I have wanted to do it at a club meet for a long time but we leave at various times and I'm normally first to leave due to a completely unsociable spouse.

Ah I see, a family gathering. Tomorrow our Minnesmarta chapter is having our second Rally. We are meeting at a drive in restaurant and going to park 2 deep to conserve space.

The only problem would be if it was metered parking on public right of way. Then in MY CITY, only motorcycles are allowed to park more than one in a parking space, but the meter must be fed. If the meter expires, both bikes get tickets.

Parking on private property (even public businesses) is not an issue unless the property owner has signs that state only one vehicle per space.

But it's really cool that both of you know how to share. My Dad would have wanted his own space. I guess that's where I get my being greedy from.....I want it all.
