2 Smarts Available In So Cal

I CAN"T BELIVE IT.... I just bought a blue passion with 89 miles on it off a Mercedes lot... (I will start a new tread about it later or tomorrow morning).

They have a yellow cabriolet with I think 400 miles $26,000 but a little room for dealing
and a white Passion with 400ish miles as well. $24,000 and room for dealing

I told them I have a couple of friends (all of you) that have been waiting and would be interested..

if interested call or stop by

89 miles and 400 miles? That's pushing the "new" car into "used" territory unless they were test-drive vehicles. Mine was delivered with 7 miles on the odometer. $26k for a Cabrio is about $8k above standard retail; unless they've added a lot of options, that's a huge profit margin for a car that's not fresh off the truck.

If the car's previously owned... as a buyer I'd want to know why an owner sold it before driving 400 miles; could be buyer's remorse (it's not for everyone), or the car may have been one of the few with a series of problems and should be evaluated thoroughly.

I never said they were being sold as new.. Mine was sold as used. Yes it is expensive, That is why I posted the price. I bought it anyway I wanted the car and I am sick of waiting! My Deisel crewcab long bed truck gets about 9 miles per gallon @ $4.30 a gallon.. You do the math... Fuel prices here are the worst in the country (I think)and are going to get much much higher....... Yes they made extra money on me and the next two people that buy the remainders but, who cares.. I would rather give my money to them now than pay for the fuel for then next who knows how long before I would get my new Smart... I am going to wait until I get my new Smart and then my wife and I will both have one, or sell it for $28,000.....

I respect anyone's decision to spend their $ as they please, but those prices are too high. For my smart, which I got in February, I got myself on an orphans list out here and didn't pay over sticker for new.

Plus I just don't see you turning around and getting 28K for this ride, even out here. Just my .02, but good luck though.

Assume $4/gallon you could get 2000 gallons for $8k........ 2000 gallons at 9mpg gets you 18000 miles, probably 12 mos. or more for most of us per vehicle..... a year from now you'll be paying under MSRP for Smart cars.....That's the math

OK, not that I need to justify my purchase but, this car has most options available. I paid less than what they were asking, but about $1000 more than it would have cost for the total "Out The Door Price"... Guess what I have plenty of money I wanted a car with better gas mileage and ??.. Plain and simple I wanted this car and it would have taken 2 years to get a new one.. so I bought it. I love it. So have something good to say, or go to a different thread...

No problems here. Like I said I respect your decision and although I don't feel I was unpleasant, if that is how it is interpreted as such - you have my apologies.

However - I too have "plenty" of money. When my last ride first came out, it came out with high demand, very low availability. I still managed to get one in L.A. for only $4K over. I put $12K of performance mods on her and then simply sold it to a dealer for because I didn't want the hassle of putting her on the private market, plus I wanted a fast sale.

I took the $ I got from the dealer . . . . and bought a couple of watches. So I repeat, I respect how someone decides to spend their money. But, I'll also repeat - I think you paid too much and don't see you turning around and getting $28K. I'll go to another thread now thank you.

I can understand the temptation to get a car NOW and avoid the long wait (which I doubt is as long as 2 years, but it could very well be over a year).

But...

You've just encouraged an unscrupulous dealer to continue making life good for himself at the expense of people without as much money. I'd like to think that a smart (as in: clever) dealer could find ways to drum up more biz that wouldn't effectively cheat the customers (and violate the Smart/Mercedes policy of not overcharging).

I got my orphan after what amounted to a week-long wait, no extra charge except the $450 power steering that I would have wanted anyway. It came to about $15k. I got lucky with the timing, but at least I didn't urge a bully to continue bullying. And I'll DEFINITELY go back to my dealership for future cars ** like when it's time to get my daughter a car one day. I'm sure you have no special feelings towards your dealership. They certainly didn't do you any favors or even treat you fairly, so why would you give them repeat business unless you had no choice? My dealer has the vision to know that treating people fairly will amount to a lot more in the long run.

Case in point: GM stiffed me over a few hundred dollars when my car broke down a few years ago. You think I'll ever buy a GM again? No way!

I don't see an authorized smart car dealer with an address of Santa Clarita. That would lead me to ask if these are 451's that were intended to be sold in the US or if they are gray market vehicles. {450's or smarts made for another country and imported.}

No way there's a 2 year wait in California with all the dealerships in such a small area there. Even here in DFW where we have one of if not the longest wait it's only about 18 months. Plus if you don't mind paying a little extra ALL dealerships have orphans. With the current drop out rate you probably could have had an orphan in a reasonable amount of time with a lot less of a markup AND it would have been "new" and not "used." PLUS it would have been from an authorized dealership.

Either way it seems we have different priorities. And it seems by the CAPS that maybe you might get something out of a referral. Maybe a little something to help pay off that huge amount you overpaid? Good luck with your new smart and getting referrals for the MB dealership.
