Just a hassle to have to run an extension cord out in the yard each time.

It didn't bother me much when my Vue Hybrid would turn the engine off at stop lights. It worked identical to the mhd on the smart fortwo.

If you factor it into the cost of the car, even paying a contractor $200 to come out and put a raised outlet near the car would be worthwhile. Then your cord's 6 feet or less - which is safer in the long run.

The electric infrastructure doesn't exist - yet. Add that in, and your house has a new selling point: Electric vehicle charging station. Added value: $5,000 simply for Wow factor.

For $5,000, I'd rather have solar cells mounted outside and charge the car for free every day instead of paying the electric company FOREVER. Then for a one-time $5,000 fee for the solar panels and stuff, I would never have to pay for energy to drive around ever again.

If they could make the range go at least 300 miles, it would be worth it. Then I could invest in a solar charging station as long as it would be a simple 110 volt charge or something simple.
