For those of you who attended our Smart driving school in 2008 we are planning a Smart driving school/Track day at mission raceway in Vancouver, BC this year.

2009 Pacific Northwest smart Event - Club smart Car

BC Driving Centre will be doing the instruction and the event will be held Monday August 17 at the mission raceway near Vancouver, BC.

"What I was thinking about was a track day at Mission for the club. The cost base it on 40 participants, at last year's numbers, we would be at 162.50 each. Of course the price would e higher if we had fewer people.
The race track is an absolute blast. The way that we structure our day is basically an 830 start (registration/coffee/doughnuts) followed by classroom of about 30 minutes. Then we go to the track and do some warm-up exercises (slalom, breaking, cornering) and then we do some orientation lapping to get the participants familiar with the track. Then we split the group in 2, 1 group to advanced classroom (cornering techniques, trail braking etc) while the other group is on the track. If 20 cars are on the track, there would be 4 instructors with 5 cars each. Instructor as passenger in the lead car of the 5 and coaching that driver, the other 4 follow the line. The other 3 instructors would do the same with their 5 people. Then after a few laps, instructor moves into another car etc.
About 25 minutes or so, the 2 groups switch, and so on. The people get lots of seat time!
We do track days with all sorts of different clubs (BMW, Mustang, Audi, and Subaru), so our guys have lots of experience. We also run the Mercedes Benz Driving Academy, which includes lots of track days across Canada

Right now we've only got 21 folks signed up on the website, which based on last year's track fees would put the cost at $310 a car. We need to get some more participants in order to get the cost down to a more 'reasonable' amount! I've seen some familiar names on the list, but we're still missing quite a few! 
You could make it into a weekend trip and do some wineries! Time to get your name on the list!!
