38.6 MPG pulling a 400lb Trailer.

The trip was >400 miles round. The MPG stated was for the 208 mile leg coming home.

Roads and speeds were 1/2 freeway,1/2 highway, a few small towns, 35-45 MPH, and one 20 mile, freeway stop and go traffic jam.

Speeds were 70MPH freeway (at 75 she would begin to twitch her tail ) and 55Mph on old US-23 up the shoreline of lake Huron to just SO. of Alpena.

We were astounded... A2Jack.

...thanks for the post Jack...good to see that the smart can handle the load and give excellent mpg's even if it wants to twitch a little...maybe it just wanted to go a bit slower so that everybody can see it...
...BTW...is your suspension stock?...can remember if it was posted before or not...is hell getting old...

jetfuel...not twiching..

Toss another bag of ice in the cooler. That should cure it.

...wouldn't a keg closer to the hitch do a better job?

This post is going to make the folks who can't even get above 35mpg upset.

Otherwise, I am glad to hear the Smart did so well with the gas mileage and the trailer. Thanks for posting this!

Jet. No special suspension, all stock. To beat the twitch I will move the cooler bracket ahead about 1" and test next trip.

Most of the trip was driven in manual using the paddles. The shift points were between 3 and 4k, it ran 3,300 RPM at 70 MPH.

Thanks for the reply's. A2Jack
