3rd Winter

Were having our first major snow storm here in Kansas City area today. I don't know about everyone else. My stock Continental tires are really worthless in the snow today. This is the 3rd winter on them. Slipping and sliding, and NO traction. Only 30,000 miles on them too. The smart car is going to sit in the garage tomorrow.

Snow tires in the future maybe????

Had the same issue with my tires, 36,000 miles on them. I already purchased snows and spare rims. made a big difference!!

Seems common that most people who have made comments have said that the first year on the all weather tire is alright, but after that it is either new or snow tires.

The first year winter wasn't bad. They clean the roads here pretty good, on the Kansas side of the city. Only in downtown KCMO, the roads are bad. They never clear them. On the way home on I-35, the car had NO traction at all. Usually on virgin powdered snow the car does pretty good. Not today!

We live in snow country. Snow tires on spare rims are the order of the day.

Dan

Seems the Contis are only good for about 40K miles and they start getting bad. I noticed a vibration at highway speeds that went away with the snows. I'll be looking for a new set of tires for spring. my vibration started right around 30K.

We are getting that snow tomorrow. I put snows on the for the first winter. But, I did get caught in the first snow this year with out the snows. It spun a bit but not real bad. had about 24,000 on the all season tires. With the snows on I think I could go any place a car could go with out issue. Deep snow is what will get ya.

I'm still on stock Conti's. Not my first set, of course; I took those off at 60,000 miles or so. I have had pretty good snow/ice traction so far in three winters, but having never compared with snow tires, I can't say I'd know the difference.

I did have some trouble on my ice-covered dirt road today, but for that I just slipped on two Autosocks and was back in business. I've driven on snowy/slushy highways, and the Conti's have been ok. The ABS and ESP help a great deal.
