5K Check UP

Well had my frist 5k check up at my dealer (Smithtown N. Y.) I'm pretty pleased with the service, in and out in 1.5hr, they even wash the car.
Here's the cost:
Labor:$50, Parts $42.20 (oil $7.40qt, filter $12.60) = $92.20
Not to bad for a check up at the dealer, a bit more than
jiffy lube!

Well, I'm gonna ask - what 5K check up? As far as I know the first maintenance due is at 10K miles; this sounds like the dealer "padding" the maintenance schedule to me. Oil @ 7.40/qt? Head to Wally World or K Mart and use your own oil.

Why did you have a 5K checkup? The smart maintenance manual lists the first scheduled maintenance at 10K. Did the dealer question why you were doing it at 5K? I realize that some of us might not want to wait until 10K to do the first oil change ourselves but don't know why you would go to dealer before 10K.

I've never went more than 1000 miles before my first oil change. I was a little nervous about doing it at 10,000. The dealer recommended 5K since we are in a pretty high traffic area. Lots of people with cars!
As far as having the dealer do the service, why not! Good people, good service.

I agree...some of us are not grease monkeys. For y'all who are, great! I'm just not one to crawl under my car. From what I can see, doing it myself would be around $42, and I only paid $50 at the dealer, so it was worth it to me!
