6 month wait?

so i just contacted a dealer by me and asked them how often they got orphans in. they told me all the details, and they said if i wanted I could come down and order a car, and it would be here six months. I asked them, if there time period was correct, because ive heard its a year and a half wait, for a brand new costumized one. The dealer said not anymore, that the production of cars is increasing so you dont have to wait as long
is this true?

Good for you if you can get it in 6 months. However, I for one am getting tired of this waiting- SMART not knowing anything about when mine is going to be delievered (much less built) ...etc. I don't think its fair that CA, NY and other areas get it before others that have been on the waitlist longer. Our dealer called in early Sept and said it will be here 11/11/08. NOW, my "build" date isn't even until 11/7 and moving farther out by the day. I know my husband is getting just as fustrated and we are about to call the deal off. We have even told the dealer we will be paying cash, we don't need to finance or try to secure a loan.

Sure. I ordered mine in May 2007 and it's due in next month ... Nov 08. That's only 6 months? Right?

Which smart center? Where? They have smart centers in heaven (not on the smart USA dealer map!)

Production increasing - not so. Already on two full shifts at Smartville, not going to a third shift even with opening up of sales in China. Maybe, and it's a real maybe, 6 months in the NYC area. Everywhere else, close to a year or longer.

LOL if it was only 6 months, I would have had mine by now. By time I get mine in DEC, I will be looking at 11 months. And, when China comes on board in Jan, there is no way you get one in 6 months unless they open another factory.

Telling the dealer you will pay cash means the dealer wont make any additional money on the deal from financing. No incentive.....

Again I am directly across the river from NYC.My wait will be about 18 months(due Nov 09).I have heard about some people on Long Island (which incase you haven't heard is not NYC)and in Conn. with less of a wait(some 6 months) and my dealer was surprised I have to wait so long. Cali seems to be quicker than here just from observing.

Except my dealer is seating on 7 orphans for over 2 months , because the people who ordered them can't get a loan. The dealership loaded them up with over $2000 worth of options we don't want. We told them we'd consider an orphan of a different color and then we'd order the color panels we want.

Well... I put in the reservation around 6-1-08 and the dealer has told us to expect delivery (I was told yesterday that it was in the process of being built) around the end of November so six month could be right depending on where you live.

where are you? i'm not familiar with what state Heaven is in.
most answers on here are contextual - please fill out your forum profile completely and candidly - it will affect the answer.
wait times vary greatly among different distribution points. i do not think there is a dealer near heaven so the wait could be extremely long.
