6 things the smart really needs

1. An 80 HP turbodiesel getting over 50 on the US city cycle
2. A 7-speed Gertrang DSG box
3. 4-wheel disc brakes
4. A tilting and telescoping steering wheel
5. Seat backs that return to their previous position
6. Better resale value.
I'd buy two more. We don't need electric, we don't need hybrid. We want fun. Lots of big Dirty fun.
Oh, and a little more factory capacity so there would be more, thus spreading the fun and lowering the price. Cm'on, Lazy French People! There are thousands of American out-of-workers that want that third shift! And some Bourdeaux.

Ditto with the tilt/tele wheel. That's the #1 and ONLY reason I am having to give up one of my smarts. Spousal unit refuses to drive it so it is going to our daughter and we're taking her Yaris.....It has a tilt.

I agree about the steering wheel. It's been a pain, at times, not being able to adjust it. I could do without most of the others; I wouldn't use CC or turbo (not good for my type of hypermiling).

I'd LOVE a diesel and would buy another Smart in a heartbeat if they offered one here. I could easily squeeze out 70 mpg if I had a diesel! An electric car wouldn't currently work for me unless I had a 2nd Smart just for errands, but I'll bet they sell a lot of them next year.

My humble two pennies worth.

1. A rear view mirror that doesn't block the forward view for right hand turns/corners.
2. Manually adjustable seat height.
3. A stereo that isn't an embarassment to 1960s technology - with rear speakers.
4. 4 wheel disc brakes.
5. Tire/wheel combo that offers more choice.
6. A proper warranty (don't give me that garbage about cost). If the manufacturer/importer doesn't have faith in the car, why should I?

If you leave it in the bottle, it fits quite nicely!! Be sure to remove the paper bag though!
