I like number 4 above. It would be neat to have disc brakes on all four wheels.
That would be two more wheels you would have to clean on a regular basis (brake dust), and wouldn't yield any significant return. I don't like cleaning the fronts that often, without doubling the requirement.
1. An 80 HP turbodiesel getting over 50 on the US city cycle
Import one from overseas or from Canada. The new CDis get around 84mpg (euro). I'm fine with the petrol smart.
2. A 7-speed Gertrang DSG box
On a car of this power? You're joking right? 7-speeds? No, a true automatic would not only kill fuel economy, but weigh down the car.
3. 4-wheel disc brakes
Should be an option, for those who want more braking power.
Although, some say that the added discs did really no worthwhile improvement to stopping power.
4. A tilting and telescoping steering wheel
It fits me perfectly, but it may not for some. Tilting wheel is standard in the euro fortwos, along with reclining seats that don't have those stupid tabs.
5. Seat backs that return to their previous position
??? Never moved the seat backs in a smart yet ???
6. Better resale value.
What do you mean? The smart holds its value better than most GM vehicles.
I'd buy two more. We don't need electric, we don't need hybrid. We want fun. Lots of big Dirty fun.
No, one of smart's major fundamentals is to be as green as possible. "Dirty" is a bad word over at smart.
Oh, and a little more factory capacity so there would be more, thus spreading the fun and lowering the price.
smart's been in the red for years, they're in no position to be opening new plants, let alone adding new models to their lineup.
Cm'on, Lazy French People! There are thousands of American out-of-workers that want that third shift! And some Bourdeaux.
smart is not lazy, they're just trying to make a profit and not disappear from the automotive world. Let them dig out of the hole and have some money to be making new factories and models. But right now they're trying to get by, especially now that there's slow sales in the US.
A double pivot rear view mirror so I can see over folded cabrio top. At 5'7" I am not tiny, just not tall! and I too would like a tilt wheel to allow easier entry and exit from the vehicle.
I found a site on these forums for a mirror adapter to use any (I used a Saturn) mirror in a smart.I dont remember what the company's name is but the adapter was about $20.This works perfectly for when I drop the top and can see over it.

I would be happy with an insturment cluster that I could read in daylight. Maybe an off white background with black lettering and a much brighter adjustable light. As it is, I can read the transmission letter and that is it.
Also, a clock display in the factory radio would be great when I can't see the clock in the insturment display.
It would be nice if the Pure had the electric windows standard. Since it is a narrow car and I have a wide body, it is not easy to roll up or down the windows.
