Hey, I have one of those IN my smart. SOMEONE was going to say it sooner or later.

With VERY little effort.... 1, 3 and 4 can already be done at a very cheap price.

The button for the latch requires about 50 cents of wire, a tap and about 20 minutes of your time.

The Area 451 cruise.... probably the mdc as well... would probably out preform any stock cruise that smart put in... and that would probably be cheaper.

Installing a 129 decibel dual tone air horn takes about 20 minutes and is plug and play.

@Wdhitch:
I wouldn't call either of the available aftermarket cruise controls "very cheap". I mentioned CC and a better horn in my list as well, although I have made those upgrades to my car. I've also upgraded the sound system with GPS, and have a SGII.

But, as I understood the intent of this thread, it is for things which should be available as factory options. Well, that's the way I took it anyway. If I'm wrong, maybe my list would be entirely different.

....and don't forget your rear view camera for being able to see behind you with the top down. (another upgrade you did because they don't do it from the factory)

I think even the Pure should have electric windows (not be an option but standard equipment).

I wasn't trying to say they were cheap... but from what I understand, the factory cruise option will be comparably priced to them and both will offer more options than a factory cruise.

In short, you'd be better off putting in a 451 or mdc in than the anticipated factory cruise option.

thanks hitch, I AM working on two of them. as it's not mine, per se, but the wife's... I have to get permission. she wants to hear the Stebel before I install it.

btw, I had to go out and test the idea I read the other night (can't 'member who) about holding down the unlock dash button for unlatching the hatch. didn't work.

someone wouldn't happen to have a link handy on a tutorial about tapping a wire, and which/where for the hatch release mod...? [grin]
