abs problem

Hi, this is my first time to the forum as I have just joined this club.

I am wondering if anyone could help with my problem.

I have a 2003 Smart Fortwo Pure 61bhp.

When turning car on, all is well, when i apply brake to engage gear all is well. When i release the brake to drive of, the abs light and the orange triangle with explamation mark which i assume is the esp light both come on at the same time and stay on until car is turned off and re-started. Does this pretty much all the time. If is apply the brake gently when engaging gear all is well until brake is pressed firmly then both lights come back on!!!!!
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated

this same situation happened to me on a bmw motorcyle that i owned (with anti lock brakes)........my memory tells me it was either a bad battery or a faulty charging system. it was fixed and all was back to normal...
