These protection packages are a complete waste of your money, but they do help the dealer make more profit. What car dealers are selling is not really protection, but a sort of insurance policy for surface damage. They spray some stuff on there to make it seem like you are getting some form of "protection".
If you want to protect the interior fabrics yourself try a can of Scotchguard Fabric Protector for less than $10. Remember to read the instructions and limitations carefully!!
