Yep, it seems that you see more 'seasoned' drivers piloting Scions, Honda Fits, etc. than you might expect.

Not 40 and no payment. Money management isn't an age thing, but the mature folks usually have a leg up on the rest of us when houses are paid off, kids aren't going to school, etc.

I am old(er) but do not pay cash for every thing. I have a good credit rating and was able to get a good interest rate for my Smart.

I'm buying this car for my son.
I Get to drive it for a couple of years before he gets it.
Is it a good car for a 16 year old.
At lease he wont be able to drive his friends around!

No kids, no plans for kids, guess that help my money situation. Only 29.3 years left on that house payment though. I try to buy everything with cash or pay credit and pay it off right away. Unless I get 0%, then I may finance something.

As for age, I had noticed that all the people around here that drive smarts are retired and was wondering if it was a national thing. Toyota started Scion as its youth brand and most driving them around here are in the 65+ crowd.

Maybe I should start a poll for how many kids you have??

Ditto here. Besides, my teenage cat would be very jealous.

If it works for you, that is a good reason to get one. By the time he gets it, it won't be brand new and one would not have to worry about the 'dents' and 'scratchs'. Plus you can teach him how to drive it; assuming you let him have it after two years.

Interesting. My wife bought a Scion Xa a couple of years ago and the dealer said that it was targeted to a young audience but most of the people he was seeing buying the cars tended to be above the top end of the demographic Scion thought it would attract. Of course, that's not a scientific sampling (nor is this) but still interesting to see Smart buyers aren't just young drivers or first-time car owners. You might think that with no advertising in the US, Smart news got around virally via the Internet and other "new media" and that might have skewed the demographic to the lower age groups.

OMG that is funny.
