...if you are behind me is OK..if you speed up just to pass and be in front of me then you will have to drive a little bit more careful 'cause I will find my way back in front and then you'll be PO'ed ...and the smart is the perfect car for such use...small and maneuverable...don't need much room...
jetfuel...if you wanted to be in front you should have left the house 10 seconds earlier...

I did the PERFECT maneuver yesterday.
Had a Honda Pilot zipping along close behind me in traffic when I got to my deceleration lane and got ready to turn off and traffic was stopped. The space in-between the curb and the last car in line that stopped short to block people from using the turn-off was just right for the smart to fit in-between. The Honda had to come to an abrupt stop because he could fit through. Truly classic as I kept chugging along and he was still stopped waiting with his signal on for the light to change so the person who was blocking the lane would go forward.

Merging in bumper to bumper traffic is sweet in the smart. I'm too small to be blocked.
It works everyday when I come to the slow down place where two lanes go into one. The people in the left think they have ownership, but the right lane moves faster. So, I just zippy down the right lane and stealthily merge in, no questions asked!
In my experience, it isn't the muscle cars which are the aggressive drivers. They have nothing to prove! With a few exceptions, they're the best behaved on the street in traffic. The exceptions simply prove that having a fine machine doesn't necessarily make you a good driver.
I gathered you weren't in a traffic situation, but it still holds true.

I had a similar experience. There is a narrow intersection where I go to and from work. I was heading home. There were three cars turning left but did not much space on the right to go around them. I had no problem going around them while the cars behind me could not. I zoomed on down the road with no one behind me since they were waiting for the light to change or those three could turn left opening it up so they could go straight.

That is one of my favorite parts. Especially when the traffic is forced to go to one lane, I just cruse to the end of the line and people always leave room for a smart!
Tonight was a great one. Got off late with not too much traffic on the 4 lane road.
A Jeep Cherokee (or some similar sized SUV) was in the left lane putting along the speed limit while I was doing 5mph over so I had to pass in the right lane. As I was doing that a Corolla zipped out in front of the SUV pulling from a side road and across the median. The Corolla never saw me and had intended to zip over to the far right lane but I had blocked him as I where he wanted to be so then the SUV had to slam on his brakes. I went ahead and sped up a little as we were exiting town when another SUV was once again blocking the left lane. The Corolla got mad at the left lane guy and switched lanes to ride my rear. Since we were exiting town the SUV then decides to speed up and match my increased speed. We went that way for a few miles out of town when the Corolla finally could cut in front of the SUV. I paced him for a moment but then I noticed a reflection on the "roof rack" on the car about a half mile ahead. I ran a little faster and then dropped back when the Corolla took off FAST. I slowed down to 55mph when it happened, the roof rack on the car ahead of us started flashing red and blue. You should of saw the Corolla lay on the brakes. FUNNY!.
The cop made it through the yellow light and then the Corolla calmed down and opted to go behind a van in the right lane of a left turning light. The light changed quickly and I was able to accelerate quickly and then pop over to the right lane with a lot of distance between me and all the other cars. I planed out at 55mph (speed limit) as I knew the cop would be waiting. Sure enough he was. Funny how I putted past ahead of everyone and still doing the speed limit. A ways down the road the Corolla passed and turned off. Most of the way I didn't drive aggressive or even much over the speed limit.
As some of you know, the Envoy is temporarily out of commission because of an engine problem. It's so bad that not to 60mph has to be 1 minute.
Last Tuesday when I was driving the Envoy to the stealership to get repaired (only because of the free rental), I had pulled out onto a two-lane, busy highway with a speed limit of 55mph.
I had floored it (the engine grumbled and shook as it attempted to have performance) and had gotten to about 10mph when I saw a little black speck appear behind me. After 30 seconds I had only made it to 30mph and the driver of that little black/silver smart wasn't happy. She veered to the left of the lane to see why I was accelerating to slowly. Eventually I had blown a fuse because to add insult to injury I saw that little car blast by me and disappear down the road.

Somehow the SUV drivers seem to think they're in a Smart when they see me sitting in b-to-b traffic and decide we can both occupy the same space.
I'm polite if someone signals the need to change lanes - unless they've zipped down the lane after the sign indicated it was ending and they are thinking they can leap frog the line of traffic. Then I hold my ground. On the other hand, I try to watch for thing like lane closures and move over in plenty of time. And, if I'm doing the right thing and you don't let me in, I have a shoehorn in my back pocket and I'll make you be polite. And I'll wave a thank you (I said THANK) just to rub it in. That was my rule before the Smart, and now I have even fewer problems when someone doesn't want to play nice. Alternate feed - each one teach one.
