Air bag light on dash stays on

Hi I was hoping that someone has ran into this problem and can tell me how to fix it. I just replaced my washer fluid bottle and had to take the front end apart and now my air bag light is on in the dash. I plugged in the sensor on the bumper in the middle and I think that is the only one that I disconnected. Is there a way to reset it without going to the dealer, or is it like engine codes and will go away after a set number of engine starts.....anyone want to help me on this...........two-dogs

Any time you unplug one of the airbag sensors the battery should be disconnected. As far as I know, the only way around the light being on is to have the dealer reset it. You could try unplugging the battery for a few hours and see if it works but I don't think it will. Same thing happens when you unplug the connector under the seat with the battery connected.

Battery doesn't work already tried that but thanks. I know that if a code is inactive it will reset after 30 or so starts, but not sure about an airbag code. I called the dealer and he said that it might reset after so many starts, but then again he wasn't positive on that..........two-dogs

Unfortunately, the only way to get it reset is to take it to the dealer. Also, I have read that if the light is on, it disables the system, so you need to get it reset ASAP. If you get into an accident, the airbags won't go off to protect you.

Make sure if you are going to mess with any part of the airbag system you unhook the battery AT LEAST 30 minutes before doing the work. They system will hold voltage for that long.

Don't feel bad, the body shop portion of my dealership set off my airbag light when they took my car apart to repair damage from me hitting a raccoon because they were to dumb to know any better. Last time they will ever touch my car.

Your correct, different computer, they stay there for "safety reasons". Typical OBD II reader cannot clear them( most can't even read them). You have to talk to it with a MB star system.

It's difficult enough that my dealer took 4 days to figure out how to talk to mine!!

It may be too late, since you spoke to the dealer already, but when I had this happen, I told the dealer the light just came on. Took them 2 1/2 hours, but they got the light off. I was still under warranty, no mention of that though and no charge. On the 2009s there were reports of a bad connector under the driver's seat, so they assumed that was the cause and allegedly changed the connector out. Got a free car wash too. Good luck.

Sometimes when something is jammed under my passenger seat the light comes on. I have to take whatever it is out, move the passenger seat a little forward. After one key cycle the light goes out....

I am not sure why it doesn't go out for others.

Well I took it in to the dealer and they said it was still active, so now I need someone that knows where all the sensors are in the front of the car. Looks like I will have to take it all apart again , because you can't see a damn thing with it all together. I connected the wire that is in the middle of the bumper plate, but evidently there is e another one in the front and if so could you point out where. I think if I don't find it, I will take it in with out the front end on just to have them show me where the hell it is that I am missing. So if anybody knows where the sensors are located please let me know..........thanks.........two-dogs
