Air Dam Peels under car@High Speed!!!

Very important note,Check under the front bumper of your smartie, and make sure that the two(2) little feet that hold the air dam to the front bumper are properly inserted in the bumper!! Mine were not and at 70-75 mph on I-85 there was this very loud bang and flat tire sound . When I stopped and looked, the front of the smart car bumper was loose and the air dam was peeled under the car!! It ripped off the two brackets that hold it to the frame and it is ruined. I got back to the house and used aircraft tape (very srong duct tape used on planes)to put it back together. Dealer will replace it,if and when they can get it!!So its worth the look to see if all is OK. Could have been loosen if you back up off those concrete parking stops used in shoppins mall's . p1nball!!!!!!

PS You might want to use aircraft tape on those two pieces so they don't come apart!!!!!

What are you doing pulling that far into a parking spot to hit the bumper/air dam anyway? Use the whole parking spot!
Thanks for the information. I will check. Pictures?

Not quite sure what I'm looking at (for) in the pictures, so I guess I'll have to take a look under my smart to understand more.

hi smartcard, What your looking for, is just under the front bumper. There are two feet one left and one right. The feet of the dam go into the front bumper. That is what holld that in. Next if look further down to the rear of the dam there is a bracket to the frame of the car. One on each side, this is further support for the dam. What I think happened is as I was lowering the car off the island it got caught on the lip of the island and poped out of the bumper. Then as I was traveling on the interstate 70mph a truck passed and bang!!! a loud bang and what sounded as a tire went down, and flat. But is was the air dam that had blown down and peeled back under the car. Well so much for parking on the traffic islands in the parking decks here at the CLT airport. Well it' 1435 hrs and have to go to work, make sure the runways are safe!!! So jut check and make sure that the dam is in tight!!!!! p1nball
