Alarm question

Do you have to be sitting in the car for the motion sensor to work. I had my top down today and wanted to show a friend what would happen if you took something out. (Motion in the car cabin). I took a broom and waggled it inside the car and nothing. I then thought it must not be working. So, I sat in the car and armed the alarm. after the 25 sec. I wiped my face using my hand and the alarm went off.

So, question one: Do you need to sit in the car for the motion sensor to pick up motion. ( no errant leaves setting it off)

Second, I rocked my car ( alarm armed) front to back and side to side at a fairly good pace and no alarm.

Second question: how much movement is needed to set off the motion alarm?

During a smart gathering a couple of Summers ago (at the marina by the Pentagon), I left a window open. Few minutes later I tried to grab a mug from the cup holder. I had forgotten about the alarm and it went off. So no need to sit in it...

Ditto, I forgotten I had my alarm set and threw a small bag in the passenger floor. It didn't like that too much.
The tow angle sensor is just that, it goes off at angle.. 30 degrees I remember hearing. Mine was improperly installed and a mere tire kick or small wind gust would set it off.

Well the detector worked with the grab water bottle out of car but the toss test did not set off the alarm.

the alarm does not care if you put something in the car - especially something nice and valuable. it just doesn't like it when something is REMOVED.

..hey Digger...I believe the sensor is aimed at the shifter...try this...sit in the car and set the alarm...stay still..you can move your arms over the steering wheel until you reach for the shifter and then....all smart hell brakes loose...I did this because most of the time my 4 leg friend goes with me and if left in the car she will set the alarm off only when she jumped from the driver seat to the passenger floor board and not from jumping from seat to seat....at least that happens in MY smart...

jetfuel...where are my animal cookies at?....
