Altercation with a deer!!

I had an "altercation" with a deer early one morning. I can't say I hit Bambi ... he more or less stepped on my SMART!! I'm not sure who was more surprised - me or Bambi! He kinda looked like " Whhhhaaaattttt is THAT thing?!?!?!!" and then put his hoof down on my fender (and then fell and rolled). My SMART faired rather well - as did Bambi I think. He did not stay to chat so ....

Damage you ask?? Well the drivers side front fender is dinged and the tab that holds the headlight broke. So it's crumpled and an eye is off kilter (someone said like its owner). After examining the bruise, I did the only respectable thing. I put on a band-aid!!

GEICO adjuster had fun. The claim system pre-filled everything properly except the manufacturer. It was blank! Took him a little to get the right "answer" corporately. Estimate? This is a killer! $180 for the front corner panel (plus shipping .. but hey! that is a pre-painted fender!!!! No body work. The headlight assembly is $300+. All in all - $750. We will hopefully find out what the final cost is when the parts arrive (hoping this week). By the way - I'm told SMART only orders parts on Tuesdays?!??!?!?! Tht is not fun when thing have to cross a HUGE pond.

All I wish was that Bambi had mocassins on!

I'll post pictures later.

My husband was driving our smart when he hit a deer a few nights ago! It bolted out from between some houses. He wasn't even sure what happened until he pulled over and someone driving behind him stopped to see if he was ok. That is when the guy said it was a deer...they saw it get up and walk away.

Broken front corner panel, headlight and the piece under the hood that holds the headlights in place broke too. The safety cell has a ding in it as well. It will be interesting to see how much it will cost to fix it based on what your estimate was.

Wow! Over the last several months I've been counting deer vs Smart accounts and this from what I've counted so far has been 4 reported on different forums. The other 2 that were reported to the forums were a bit worse but the resilient little cars seem to fair well against the deer.

Our deer around here are pretty good. They stand right next to the road and watch the cars go by then continue munching away on the roadside grass. I did have a momma & Bambi cross in front of me last night just as the sun was setting. They ran into a cotton field and the momma deer was just slightly taller than the plants in the field. A lot of our deer around here aren't big while others are a pretty good size. Nothing compared to some of the deer further north.

Somewhere in the woods, a deer is telling another deer, "I hit one of those little tiny toy cars the other night! I did okay, but I think I broke it..."

Pictures after the altercation

So here's the car after the altercation:

The band-aid picture was too large so I need to scale it down to a size that fits.
