Am I now a marked woman?

So, a you may have read by me the other day, I finally got my Smart and no more than 5 minutes passed when a Sherriff's Deputy stopped me for working on my braking in the parking lot of a "school."

Today I had another run in with the law..all of 87 miles now logged onto my Smart. Today was the day that my neighbor's complaints to our city of Cocoa's Police Dept was heeded. We live off a side road to a main U.S. road where the speed is 45, but people use our neighborhood to speed through as a "cut through" to save time and traffic. Our tiny road's speed limit is 25 I believe. I was exactly three houses from my own at a stop sign, playing (still) with the manual-ly transmission...rolled through the stop sign, pulled into my driveway, and voila! Police appear! I got a ticket for rolling through that dang stop sign.

The stupid thing is I have personally complained about people not rolling through that sign so much as picking up speed to get to the U.S. road located four houses past mine. They end up at almost 40 mph at times. I was slowing down to get into my driveway.

So, after chit chatting with him for a minute, he hands me the $150 ticket. I have never had a ticket in my 26 years of driving. He wants to know more about the Smart. I am smiling, not even thinking that had I said I was an RN in my community earlier in our conversation he would have extended "professional courtesy" to me...."off the record." He even says out loud "I feel like such an idiot.." to me But, he says he cannot throw out the ticket after he has begun to write it. Like I am supposed to know?! 5 days with my Smart and now 2 runs-in withthe law. I think I will hole up at home, finish my online "basic driver improvement course" to keep points off my record before I get new insurance for my Smart, and stay off the roads for a while!

And oh yeah, he took a Smart brochure, which I offered to him...

This sucks....

Well I'm an idiot. I've had my fair share of tickets. I'd plan on fighting it in court. In NJ they actually welcome you pleading it down (you pay) to unsafe operation (no points). Something to think about. I read your other post. Sorry about your bad luck. Unfortunately the smart car is not transparent in the eyes of the police

The price of celebrity

pwbapro,

Youre marked. Same thing happened to my dad in the 1950s driving a VW Beetle. I remember peering out from the "luggage compartment " and thinking, now what do they want again???

I wish it had been 26 years since my last ticket...

Best,
26.2
