Since I got my car I have never checked what I'm getting for MPG's, I just figure it's better than my other car and since everyone else is reporting around 40 mine must be about the same.
When people ask me what my MPG's are I lie and tell the 100!

All my gas receipts land up in an envelope. I figure out a rough estimate, but that's all!...
But I do not tell tales to inquirers.
I'm keeping only very rough track (like, "hmm, it took 6 gallons and I went X miles, not bad.") I'm tempted to buy a scanguage and really pay attention, but with my obsessive personality, I think's too dangerous.
I have an excel file with every fuel purchase recorded. Not only the gallons and price but where purchased, driving conditions, what was in the car, whether or not the a/c was on, and any other information I feel is relevant. I keep track of each tank and a running total. It's a matter of writing my mileage on the fuel receipt and taking maybe a minute or two each fill up to record the information.
I doubt you're the only one. But we got in the habit with the H3 when we got it so it seemed a good idea to do it with the smartie.
