Anger over high asking price

You can always count on craigslist to bring out the haters.

Who is worse - the guy wanting 5k over for his car or the one cursing him to Iraq?

Personally, I don't have a problem with the markup (the smart will sell for what the market will bear - its the American way). I think this poster is just a tad peeved because he's driving some earth destroyer and can't get out of it.

Smart Car - $20800 (or more)

I just removed mine from EBAY because of people complaining my price was too high. Funny thing is that I posted my invoice to show that I paid $17000 plus extras (Xenon HID, floormats, tints etc) and nobody was interested - I think this is due to the falling gas prices. I personally tracked ten (10) other smarts on EBAY and the highest average bid was below dealer sales price. So I know that people are not paying a premium for Smarts anymore. Peace.

Agree; gas drops below $4 a gallon and suddenly the crisis is over. When it goes back over $4 people will be scrambling for high mpg cars again.

There are all kinds residing on CL. Some posts makes for very interesting reading. I'm not quite sure what this poster meant with the Iraq remark though.

Free expression...

My responses for selling the Vette on craigs list are dealers trying to buy $5K to $8K lower than asking price which is $2K lower the KBB. IMHO, craigs list has better uses than buying and selling automobiles....

Happy motoring (or running),

hey "Cruising and Coasting"......i doubt it has to do with gas prices. more like the economy.

if we're all honest with ourselves, we are either buying a smart car or bought one because we're car enthusiasts. we're NOT buying a smart purely due to its economy. there are other cars that are more 'practical' with decent mpgs.

yes, the smart centers are seeing less traffic recently but i don't think it's due to the price of gas falling. gas WILL go up again. they've seen how much they can get for it and it's just a matter of time that we'll have another spike in prices. i believe it will 'level off' around $5/gal.

but getting back to my point. with the economy in the toilet, there are less people buying 'toys' and holding onto their $$. you might be better off advertising it on 'autotrader.com'. there have been many on there with asking prices MUCH HIGHER than yours. don't know 'if' they sold or what they sold for, but you may have a better chance of selling it than on eBay.

good luck!!!

Jeepster,
I appreciate your input. My dilemma is whether to sell my 2007 Tacoma truck or the SMART. I thought to keep the truck because it has a 6' bed but now I see that people are making hitches and folding trailers. So this seems to be a good sign to keep it the SMART.
Now that gas is coming down, it might be a good time to list my Tacoma.
