This is the place for all of those with high reservation numbers like mine 1451! Also for those that are sick of all the stupid post about the confirmation emails and phone calls from the dealers! Im guessing that everyones emails will say the same thing? My opinion is that once these things start rolling into the US these numbers wont mean much other than you participated in a marketing campaign. I dont believe that it will be 2009 for you to get a Smart if you want one.

Doesn't it make sense that so many are going to be delivered to each dealer? So your confirmation number really doesn't really make a whole lot of difference. ??

Just as long as someone who reserved earlier gets their before someone who reserved later, sure. Since the number reflects your date of reservation, it makes a whole lot of difference

actually no. cars are allocated based on the number of reservations. so, one dealer may get 30 cars per shipment and another dealer may only get 2 based on the their number of reservations. so, all dealers do NOT get the same amount of cars. not even close. your reservation number means everything actually.

in other brands such as porsche and audi, a west coast dealer may get 10 boxters to 1 for a dealer in say Kansas. their allocations are done by the previous year's sales history. some dealers get none of the premium cars because they don't have the sales history. go try to buy a 2008 Audi S5 like i just did and you will see this illustrated very clearly.

I'm a 1419, and I'm very excited for all the folks hearing from the dealers now!

I'd been thinking that I'd see my car sometime in 2009, but with the way the process seems to be moving, maybe I'll make 08 yet!

I agree, Willy. As these guys said a lot'll depend on your area. It's going to be tougher in more populated areas I'd think.

Good point on the previous years sales history, since there is no previous years history maybe that was the $99 reservation ploy to give them an idea of which areas to target the most. Its been said before that $99 just does not seem like a big enough commitment to build a car and ship to the US with the hopes that the other $13500 will be there waiting with a smile.

yes. that is exactly why they did the rez system. they needed to know where the biggest demand would come from and hence, where to steer the biggest allocations.

I think the more populated areas will give you a better chance at getting one. Most of the inventory will be shipped to these areas ie Los Angeles that have the most initial demand. There are are 4 Smart dealers within an hour of me. So I am hoping that there will be some that back out and I will get one sooner than expected if not oh well guess I will get an 09 and all the 1173ers will have an OLD model!

I just wish I knew where I was on the list. I would like to get my smart before the Huskers win the national championship again. :O)
