My girlfriend and I just picked up our Smart Coupe tonight. We were on the list for about 2 months. Our first trip was to Target to pick up some water and some groceries. We parked it in the front right by the handicap spaces. It was about 8pm. When we left (about 830pm) there was already two people standing by it looking through the window. By the time we got to the car, two more people went up to the car. I knew it would get attention, but wow, this was really quick. My girlfriend of course was all giddy with her new toy. I can't really imagine what the gawkers will be like during a nice sunny weekend at a mall.

I had a guy coming running out of the gas station pointing his finger at me and yelling " That car is not street legal"

Two teenagers followed us for awhile, they honked a few times and we finally pullled over to face the encounter. Windows rolled down and one yelled "is that a real car?" and then, "does it take gasoline?". This is fun!

Every time I park i get people asking me about the car. Its gotten to the point that I leave early so I am not late for something! I am a reservist in the AF; I had senior officers and such in flight suits asking me all about it, too - as a TSGT, how the heck am I supposed to tell an officer I gotta go??? <grin>

I have a bumper sticker that I am not brave enough to put on my smart...TX IS the land of the BIG P/U and SUV....beside my Iraq vet sticker ( I was in the Army for 10 years before going into the Air guard) I want to put "slapping a support the troops yellow ribbon on the back of your SUV during a war for oil just makes you look like an a$#%ole." Hubby says that might work back in Ann Arbor (represent A2Jack!!) but not in Houston. Oh, well!!

Had a kid with braces and a chevy pickup stop at the red light with me - he rolled his window down and told me the car wasn't as big as his cab - I told him my car got 53 mpg (yes - 1st tank) and only cost 15k...that shut him up in a hurry !!
