Someone left a note on my car last week. The note said that I should not have parked there. (One of those teeny spaces that noone else can fit in) because it is hard for larger vehicles to get around me.

UHHHHHHHHH...OK....I suppose if a LARGER vehicle had parked there it would have been easier to get around? BTW...I remember the HUGE pick up that was parked next to me. It was not in the lines. The persone could not even park. I am just glad I did not get hit.

You can't be too different in this society, sadly. The ignorance in some people rears it's ugly head out of jealousy or envy I guess. I'd expect most people to welcome the little Smarty with open arms but there are always a few bad apples that need to be rude in one way or another. I remember one Porsche who left his sunroof open and someone spit in it. I saw, in a movie of all places, someone barf in the open moon roof of an expensive car. It's not funny when it happens to you. Someone spit a piece of banana on the hood of my brother's car the other day.

Sorry for your misfortune.

What else would you expect from a Starbuck drinker? Anyone who drinks that swill and thinks it's coffee is nuts. The term in Italy for that stuff is 'l'acqua sporco'.

Most people give a thumbs up while at a light for example. They are inquisitive and ask all kinds of questions and I'm always glad to answer them.
In my Bradenton/Sarasota area however I encountered cars entering the road just before I get there. They seem to have the attitude, that... 'what are you going to do to me with this little thing?' Pulling out on the main road just before a vehicle approaches was usually reserved for the elderly who have a delayed reaction. Now I find that younger drivers do it too. That is the one time I wish I had large truck which commands respect.
Speaking of trucks... in general, the vehicles of choice a year ago, they are the ones that ride my rear end occasionally. When I get the opportunity I let them pass.
Then you have the comedians that equate the smart with a golf cart, but that is to expected. On the whole though, it's a pleasure driving the smart.

Karma does come around...

Two linked stories for me.
Has anyone else been pulled over by curious cops? So far it's been 3 times in the first 3 weeks I've had my bee...

And in the some people just plain suck category, I had an absolute A$$hole behind me in the left turn lane one morning. Guy ahead of me was being safe and taking his time. I had no problems with him not taking any of the minuscule gaps. This is Long Island and the drivers are insane, and when the lights cycled, I'd have a turn arrow. Guy behind me is having a complete fit. Slapping the steering wheel, yelling, screaming, the whole bit. Guy in front of me goes as the light is yellow. I choose not to follow him and was glad as a transport truck blew the light (he hadn't looked like he was slowing down, I wasn't going to risk it). Light cycles, idiot behind me freaking out the whole way, and I turn left with him following me. He passes me and then deliberately cuts me off at the next right turn and blocks me in. Proceeds to get out of his car and start yelling at me "before you go and buy some stupid piece of sh!t foreign car, you need to learn to drive" etc. Literally almost foaming at the mouth. So he finally gets back in his car and drives off up the road.
Best part: his car: Mercedes S class
Bestest part, where karma works: cop #3 to pull me over from curiosity was just a block up the road and asked why I was so pale... :-)

The car is new and different it unfortunately stands out. There are a few sorry people out there who are miserable and unhappy, and the only way they can vent their frustration is by doing something negative or destructive. They walk out of store (or bar) and see a brand new car sitting there "smiling" and they just want to kick something (a dog, their spouse, their kids, our cars) because they hate their own life. Nothing much anyone can do except to be happy and move on, and hope that someday they get help from a mental health professional (and park it in as safe a place as possible).

As for the valve caps, I'm had mine stolen off every car I've owned for the last 40 years. I always assumed it was kids who wanted them for their bicycles. I was tempted to get the smart caps, but the temptation would probably be too much for some kids, and they wouldn't last long.

In just a couple of days of driving I have only had one person (in a new Mustang) pull beside on the freeway, flip me off and race away. That was weird, he must have just finished filling up his tank at $4.30 a gallon.

Almost all the responses are positive and everyone wants one. I say get in line.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I'm in Studio City quite a bit and overall I've had nothing but positive experiences so far. The Valley has been very good to me and my smart, although a bird did have the audacity to poop on my hood yesterday .

.

The baristas at my local starbucks love the car. Its one of the highest grossing starbucks in the country. They all had to go out and look at the car for about 10 minutes. Cost that store a bundle in lost sales. Starbucks gets a lot of heat for expenssive coffee but swill it isn't. The coffee is first rate and the companies policies are extremely progressive on a lot of fronts. And I don't want to here about that tip sharing fiasco. In Italy, all you ever hear about is this place has the best this, that place has the best that. My mom makes the best gravy(sauce.). Reminds me of Brooklyn.
