Anyone else find a Magna sticker on their mirror? - Smart Car of America Forums : Smart Car Forum

My husband has just noticed that on the back of my rear view mirror is a small sticker, with a built in electronic chip or antenna. It has the words MAGNA and also Alien 2006 on it.

We've checked our other two Smarts and neither one has the sticker. We are scratching our heads because we would swear we've never seen this before.

I can't find anything on Google about what this thing might be. Anyone else have one of these, or have any clue what it is?

We have a Smart Pure with no alarm, a Smart cabrio with the standard alarm, and a second Smart cabrio with the top of the line alarm. It's the middle one we discovered the odd antenna sticker on.

If he hadn't laughingly said "is someone tracking you?" I wouldn't have given it a second thought, but now it's making me a little nuts! The only thing I could think of is some kind of inventory thing for when it was in production or shipment that maybe they forgot to take off. But why haven't I noticed the darn thing in the past sixteen months?

Magna International is a large supplier of automotive mirrors and related equipment. Perhaps the sticker is just an inventory sticker that wasn't removed by Magna?

Sounds like it could be a case of RFID. Radio Frequency ID- a way for a company to track inventory is the most talked about use of this. The range is very short - measured in feet. Other uses are sewing the chips into clothing to keep track of children at school, for example.

Thanks for the info. I googled Magna myself, but was looking for "antenna", didn't think to check "mirror".

BTW, when you google Magna Alien Antenna, you do get all kinds of wierd stuff. Might not necessarily have been "big" brother watching, lmao!

Those little trackers are used to mark future alien abductees . . . they have to keep the inventory of test subjects high so they mark who's gonna be next . . . sorry! You may not want to be the one driving that one for a bit. . .

Oh, don't worry - you'll never remember it and it doesn't hurt anyway!

If aliens were tracking you, you would be looking for an implant in your neck or arm, and a bar code on the back of your neck. On the plus side, if you were abducted, at least the aliens will give you a thorough check-up. Or so I've heard...

I'm pretty sure I read that in the new healthcare bill. It's a kind of outsourcing designed to save the taxpayers some money.
