It's like saying it's a wife's fault she is hit by her husband because the tea wasn't on the table when he sat down, or a young girl's fault she was attacked just because she was outside playing in shorts or something. That is sooo wrong.
Gloria, first let me say, I totally agree! I would add though that blaming the victim is genderless. Case in point, mine ... several lifetimes ago I was married to a very abusive bipolar woman. Later on (in this lifetime) I related this disastrous marriage to a lady friend of mine, with some specific examples of abuse. Her immediate instinctive response was, "well, what did you do to her to piss her off so bad" ... I lost my cool. OF COURSE, if a woman abuses a man it must be his fault, right?
About your unfortunate experience on the road ... do you live in Florida? Although not normally as bad as what you described, it is pretty common for them to try to get so close that you can't see their headlights. I see them following each other at 50-55 MPH with only 5 or 6 feet between them. They're really, truly, out of their minds. If the car in front of them were to suddenly stop, they wouldn't even get their foot off the gas peddle, let alone hit the brake.
However, when I am in my Ram with 8" lift, I don't seem to have the same problem either.
Or maybe a "locust launcher". You would have to supply your own locusts, but the effect would be nearly the same. Those damn things really make a mess on the windshield.
shame on you bull, SHAME!!! (the truck) now the locust launcher seems like a good idea as there are a whole s**tload of them in my area. DEAL DEAL DEAL COME ON DOWN 4 LOCUSTS FOR A DOLLAR TO REFILL YOUR LOCUST LAUNCHER!!!

Just not too sure if I can find a place to mount it. Check out the videos while you are on the site. Those guys are nuts. Any time you pull up behind someone and lay down on a locomotive horn, you are going to get a reaction!!!
okay now that will piss off all the drivers on the road but well worth it!
I have people following my tail but not talking on the phone, instead they are following and tailgating me on the road in the city and freeway with a camera phone trying to snap a shot of my licenses plate or a digi cam trying to get a better shot of my rear end as my licenses plate says "OMG HAHA" =P...
I've noticed that the Smart drivers most adapted to driving in traffic may be the ones like myself who have spent years on a motorcycle. The sensation is very similar.I always enjoy the security of being surrounded by steel, seatbelts, and airbags while trying to outguess the tailgaters and others.Actually the tailgaters, although extremely annoying, are the least dangerous to me.It's the upcoming drivers that look but don't see that can kill.
And after thinking about tailgaters for a while I recall...
I used to drive a Grand Cherokee to work and was constantly being tailgated every day. So,as an experiment,I attached an empty Coke can to the roof, using a removable putty we used in the body shop to install windshields with.It was hilarious to see other drivers climb up on me,see the can "accidentally" left on the roof, then back WAY off. I have to admit though,it was a hazard in itself because of the attention it caused even to the drivers going the opposite direction.

I'm not sure if that's exclusive to Florida... San Francisco Bay Area traffic scares me and I ain't scared of anything! It's much like you described above there, very close, very fast, and everyone darts in and out of traffic without any consideration for others! There are about 100 exits per mile (my numbers may be a leeeetle off there) and they all go in every direction you can think of. It's a giant mess!
Here in Sacramento, it's better. But there are those days when people just don't think. However I've actually seen most people pulling up behind me closely so that they can read my bumper sticker, if you can believe that. Then I watch them laugh and it kind of makes my hour, you know? The sticker reads: "Requires AA batteries (not included)"

I was born and lived here in San Francisco all my life.. to me I guess I got used to the traffic here and it doesn't seem bad at all.. to me I think LA or actually no New York is worst.. but I don't find it scary, I find it fun to drive.. haha like a video game but always have to keep in mind that this is real and there's no "game over and restart" =P...
About that bumper sticker.. as I mention that is a very funny thing and it makes my hour and my day too ;) Just like how mines has the whole "OMG HAHA" licenses plate and now with the small red letters over white bumper "*CAUTION: SHRINKAGE MAY OCCUR WHEN WASHING" lol...
I got completely fed up today a tractor trailer was tailgating me for about 2 miles and I was going over speed limit. The a-hole was not more than a car length me and finally started to go around me and I rolled down window and gave him to single finger of fury. The guy was on straight section of highway and as tractor truck (not the trailer) part came beside me the ass purposely swerved over at me then back in his lane. I have to say I was pissed the the 9th degree. I punched it and got in front of him after all I don't need a psycho in front of me and got in front of him and tapped my brakes. I then got back in the far lane again and he speed up to get in front of me (mature ass trying to race a smart with a tractor trailer). I got back in front him one more time and alerted him to his rudness with same maneuver I did before. I then dropped it and was going on offramp and he must have been on CB bad mouthing me as 2 more tractor trailers that pasted me hooked and gave me the finger. I'm damn f'ing fed up with the disrespect I get by other drivers on the road. I'm never going to challege anyone again and I know you guys are going to trash me for this but I thought I'd share. It isn't right that people think that because we have small car they can push us around.
.... I'm sorry I'm just still shaken by the whole scenario and sorry if I come off as a jerk. I expect to be respected on the road just like the rest of the cars.
Do not have a problem, Stay out of the left lane except while passing. Just still get some strange looks. Really when I pass a slower vehicle. Germany was a great place to drive as they know and enforce the rules, Korea and the Middle East not so much.
