Good odds TireRack won't get more business from me.

Yeah.. Actually, the MB service center my smart group is attached to has changed management a couple times in the past 7 months. It looks like they finally have a decent set of people in there now. Unfortunately due to past performance, I initially blamed them for this when it's clearly TireRack's fault.

I'm still waiting on a resolution by TR, but my last e-mail from them was less then pleasant. The customer service rep basically implied it was my fault for not ordering the tires from them along with the rims. I pointed out that my initial order included tires, that I then canceled. (I canceled because when I hit OK, they went from listed as in stock to "back ordered".) The tires it suggested were 155s and 175s, because their site is suggesting those tires. And they were going to ship separately, meaning TR would not be mounting or balancing the wheels. I would have wound up in the same boat either way.

Right now I'm less than pleased with TireRack, and their sales representatives. Their site still shows the rims suggesting 155s and 175s, when it's clearly NOT the right tire size. What really bugs me is that despite me pointing out that their website was in error, the rep said he wished I'd included a link to check. Because clearly there's no way he could have looked up my order by order number or customer number (both were in the e-mail) to see what I'd ordered...

Just as a follow up, I gave up on the e-mail support from TireRack when the person I was talking to again insulted me. I called their 800 number and talked to a rep about it there. I asked about returning the rims (preferably on their dime, as it's their false advertising that lead me to order them to start with), and she said she'd get back to me. That was 2 days ago.

Now I look on their site, and they finally updated the tire sizes for the rims. So at the very least they got the message that their specs were way off and corrected that. Unfortunately it looks like they're still going to try to screw me, despite this being clearly their fault.

In the end though I know I won't be too screwed. If I don't get the response I want out of this, I can call the credit card company and reverse the charge. Vendors tend to be very responsive when you have their product, but they no longer have your money.

I have found that if the web site does something you don't like get them ( a human rep) on the phone pronto and you will get your problem resolved.

Turns out, in this case it's true. Why the person doing e-mail support didn't get it, and the one on the phone did I'm not sure. Moral of the story, you can order stuff from them on the web, but don't try to resolve issues that way.

They finally updated their site so it's showing the right tire sizes now for that rim set at least. And because it was their fault, they're shipping me materials to return the rims at no charge and with no re-stock fee. So, it took a while to get them to do it, but they're doing the right thing at least.

Just as a quick follow up, after a good amount of hassle, and several calls to TR later, I did wind up getting the purchase refunded. One thing that struck me as funny though was they initially credited me with just the rims when they got the return. (I had purchased the rims with TPS.) I had to call to get them to rebate the TPS as well.

Suze,

If you really want this color I can get you panels sprayed.

Looks like "Nuclear Red" like on the Triumph Speed Triples (motorbike) from 2002. Its metallic red with a purple candy coat.
