get leather seats get the other stuff if you want it or not. The sensor is not intrusive from the drivers seat ti is blocked by the mirror and unless you are looking specificly at it it does not mar the apearance very much at all IMHO

So in theory, the rain sensor might be illegal in California, or the fact that the rearview mirror is in front of it make it OK?

Auto on lights require a sensor, what we are asking is a way to turn the head lights on when the car turns on. Regardless of sensing if it is dark.

Find the sensor and cover it, your car will always think it is dark and the lights will always come on.

I think it is on the back side of your mirror, but having not seen a smart yet I could be way wrong.

Know where it is, the operation is not obvious to the casual observer.
If I stick tape over it do I kill the wipers?

It's a relatively large round disc attached to the windshield near the top, partially obscured by the rearview mirror.

Auto Lights for DRL works

This is an old thread, but, I blocked the center of the light sensor and it turns on the headlights anytime the engine is running. The rain sensor is not affected if you only cover the light sensor with about a 1/2 inch circle of tape. The wipers may take the tape off after a while. I will leave it on and see. I know my insurance rates won't be affected, but maybe I'll be safer.

My insurance company lists both my vehicles with DRLs, the Outback and the smart (?). The reductions in premiums for a 6-month period are $1.53 and $1.47 respectively, not much. The safety factor is worth a good bit more than the savings.

Has anyone successfully added a DRL kit and not hosed up the electrics?
