Automatic Climate control??

I was wondering if the system is a true automatic system. Can you set it on a temperature and auto? Will it not start blowing until that temperature is reached? Just wondering, as I did not actually notice an auto setting? Thanks for your replies..

The "auto" part seems to just be the thermostat. The blower speed is manual. Also, the A/C switch must be turned on manually if you need cooling. Haven't needed that yet here!
That's the way it seems to work for me.

That sounds perfect for me - exactly how I use systems capable of being fully automatic anyway

Good question, don't know how the fortwo handles this. Presumably the fan stays on whatever speed you have it set for, and most likely the temperature is maintained by mixing heated air in with a/c air, and not by cycling the a/c on and off.

From what I can tell, it is similar to the system MB used in the 2000 C230s, and used in their Sprinters through 2006. All it controls is temperature.

From my experiences with it in both the C230 and the Sprinter, it works well... you never get a blast of cold air from it because of it being confused or anything.

That is kinda what I thought. I do find it strange though that Smart calls it automatic climate control. There seems to be nothing automatic about it. No problems for me, I just dont think they should call it that, unless that is what it really is. I have met a few that are very fanatical about having auto climate control. I have had it, and it really makes no difference to me. Thanks for the replies.

I think the temperature knob is to set the desired temperature, the fan is totally manual.
For example if you set the temperature to 70 in the winter a sevo will open the hot water to the heater core until 70 is reached, than it will gradually close and open the valve to maintain 70.
In the summer set it to 70 and it will cycle the A/C pump on and off to maintain 70.
That's why some people call it automatic.

It is automatic. it's just a simpler system with less parts to fail. If all it is doing is fading the temperature, it's keeping air moving and keeping the car from getting stuffy.

Above freezing, foggy windows AC cleared the windows quickly. With the thermostat set at 70 it blew warm air lots of glass to clear worked great.
