Made It...

Uneventful second day... Rolled out of Jackson, TN around 7am, after breakfast at the Waffle House. Sunny, warm, and and humid, but still comfortable enough to run with the roof opened for a while.

Lunched at some country buffet in Benton, Arkansas that boasted of a 100'-long buffet. They're not kidding about that, but the rest of it was bogus - it was easily some of the worst food I've had in the fourteen months I've been out on the road. If you're crossing through Little Rock/Benton on I-30, and you're tempted to stop at Brown's Country Store & Buffet.... Don't.

And then the rain returned. The rest of the way across AR and into TX, til around Mt. Pleasant. Doesn't it ever stop raining here?

Found out there is a bit more than 8.7 gallons on the fuel tank... Got out of Texarkana heading west, and the gas gauge hit its last segment around New Boston, TX. I figured I'd keep going and fuel up further out of town to get away from the traffic. Well... There isn't much in the way of fuel once you get west of New Boston and the army depot. The gauge hit "0.0" about five miles short of Mt. Pleasant, and I kept having visions of pushing the car along the highway in the rain. I suspect I was running on fumes when I spotted the Exxon station on the west side of town, and kept expecting the car to die at any second. But I made it up the ramp, over the bridge, and up to the pump. Whew!

Fuel economy dropped yesterday, primarily because I turned up the speed a bit to keep up with traffic, and I ran the A/C quite a lot as the day heated up... Bucksnort, TN to Heth, AR; 197.6 miles, 5.83 gallons, for 33.74mpg. Heth, AR to Mt. Pleasant, TX; 310.8 miles, 9.023 gallons (!!), for an average of 34.44mpg.

Rolled into downtown Dallas about 6pm local time last night, got all settled into my hotel. The Cabrio is enjoying a bath this morning, across the street in the valet-parking ramp, courtesy of the detailing shop that keeps the hotel's van clean. She'll return to her city-car status for a couple of weeks while we're here playing the Music Hall, then Part II of the odyssey, when I leave here heading east...

What shows do you work for if I might ask, hopefully that isn't too personal.

I'm currently out on the road crew of the Broadway musical "A Chorus Line."

There are a few sprinkler heads and dips around the SR-71, but nothing too bad. Actually the car will go fine on the sidewalk to the SR-71. Just tell them you mistook it for a road.

More than 8.7 gallons.....remember there is a filler tube on the car that goes to the tank itself. You can fit a good amount of fuel in there too.
