Drove 15 hours from Up State NY all the way to the Indy 500. What surprised us both (my buddy who went with me) was how the trip did not tire us out. We arrived at 9 PM and went right to work setting up the Motorhome’s (after leaving at 6 AM) We all worked for a good hour and a half. We then broke out the drinks and stayed up until 2 AM
We drove I am sure almost all the way against the wind at speeds between 71 and 78 MPH mileage was constant at 47.2 MPG (going) On the return trip it was different.
We got up at 7 AM for the race (well for breakfast and getting ready for the race.) got in the stands, stood up for three almost four hours on the bleacher seat (we had the top row) after the race we packed our stuff and began the return trip. This time no wind to speak of, but we arrived back home at 7:30 AM I was dead tired but not from the trip I had been up on my feet for 24 hours and I don’t care how great a ride the car is, we were both tired. Yea we could have slept when we took turns driving, but we had so much fun it was hard to slept so we just drove and talked.
The thing is, the Mercedes Smart was perfect for the trip, I took it up to 95 for a bit and had pedal left, I felt 95 was fast enough. The Smart drew a lot of attention at the campgrounds. Even met people who were waiting on their Mercedes Smart. I have no idea why Our Smart gets so much better gas mileage than what people have been saying here.
It was a great trip, it was a great race and it was a great experience. We parked the Smart inside the Motorhome and took some pictures, I am going to try and up load them so you can see it inside the Motorhome.

I was also up in Indy for the race and noted one smart (blue/black) for sale on someone's lawn on 30th street near Georgetown. Maybe it didn't go fast enough for them?
Oh yea, Ours is the Bee (I call it that) However you didn't see me cuz, I'm Bald. I only drove it to the bank twice and to kroger where i was able to sit in Danica's road race car on display. I did see another Smart, it was White w/black trim. He had as big of a smile as i did.
I can not express the fun feeling it is driving our Smart, Both my wife and I enjoy driving again. If I was single and younger, (much younger) I would want my Smart because it is a "Chick magnet" and if I were a female I know it would be a "Hunk magnet" Did I say that right? Well how ever you women say it, I think you know what I mean. I like an idea I read today, I am going to make up a hand out sheet so when ever it begins, I can hand them the sheet with the question they will ask with the answer. I drove all the way there to watch Danica win, she didn't but it was well worth the time and money. My only disapointment this trip was watching Mr. Brisco take her out of the race.

Brisco should get the bonehead of the year award! Not only did he blow over into her lane (and her!) but he unapologetically blamed her for not moving over! What a boob.
The articles in the paper say she wasnt running well and would not likely have won... But still! Grrr!
Anyway - I guess it wasnt you I saw! Glad you guys enjoyed the race anyway!
I agree about the paper with information to give to curious gawkers. I also have a pile of the dealership's cards to give to people. We early adopters should get some kickbacks!

1) Briscoe IS a bonehead....wrecks nearly everything he sits in. in fact, i heard that he crashed his bicycle in the infield a couple times during the month of May as well!
2) we'll never know. even though she wasn't running well 'up to that point', she was STILL in the Top Ten with plenty of time left to adjust her car. she never got the chance to contend at the end.
I was also at Indy. I saw a blue black smart with two guys in it. Is that anyone out there? As for the whole Danica thing I dont think that she should have stormed down pit lane. Getting in wrecks is a part of racing it doesnt matter if its her fault or not, trudging down pit lane towards Briscoes stall is rediculous. If someone was pitting what are they going to do run her over? She put alot of people in harms way including herself and I think it made her look very unprofessional. Just my two cents
