Bad Odor from Vents after using Air Conditioner

When I use the air conditioner on my car, and then shut the air off, I'm getting a "funky" odor from the vents (on fan alone) that smells like I have been smoking in the car. As an ex-smoker, I know the smell, but this car was brand new and shouldn't have ever been smoked in! Has anyone else noticed a similar problem with their smart? Also, does anyone have any experience with how to "neutralize" or "sanitize" the air conditioning system on a car to correct a problem like this? I have a vanilla deodorizer clipped into a vent, and it makes the car smell nice, but once the air conditioner is turned on, and then turned off later with just the fan running.........there's that SMELL!!

I usually get a high moisture "ozone" smell. It not stinky though like you describe. Best way is to open the windows slightly and have the fan go on like "2" for 10 mins while driving.

We've been down this road before, but the easy comment is to check this out: Evilution - Smart Car Encyclopaedia . The same theory holds for the 451 as the 450.

There were some posts on this thread:
Musky odor from the vents
I didn't take the time to read them, but maybe you can get something out of it?

I actually started this thread at another location. Anyways, I bought a can of Wurth AC treatment from Ebay. Man it's almost gone. It's a 6 oz can and you spray it into the vents or the return air intake. Turn up the fan on recirculate and let this stuff eat away with the mold/bacteria that is causing that 'odor'. I heard that you can also use a can of lysol as that will do the same. So far so good but it doesn't last forever. Eventually it will return.
