Bicycle Rack and other accessories?

I sure wish some information would come forth on what accessories will be available for purchase when we pick up our smart cars and how much they will cost.

My reasoning is quite simple. I would like to buy all those items and have them installed and financed along with my car loan. I know I would invest in way more items if it just added a few dollars to my monthly payment rather than having to scrape up large sums of cash after I already have a monthly car payment.

In particular, I am interested in the bicycle carrier, and maybe the GPS unit, and the windscreen for my cabrio, and the list continues. Since my number is low enough that I should be one of the first in my state to get one, I would like to be able to specify how much I want to borrow BEFORE I go to make my purchase so I am all set without any unforseen delays, especially after all this waiting. Certainly, somebody could be figuring out what accessories are going to be offered, and affix a cost to those. Afterall, the car is being delivered in the rest of the world, and the brochures are even available in Canada, although I don't know if they contain firm prices. I know the Penske dealers would be selling lots more add-on's if they were giving people an advance 'taste' of what they can 'add'.

Since it's going to be a several hour drive for me, I don't want to constantly be making trips to the dealership and back, if I can do it all in one trip. My snow tires have already arrived. I decided not to take a chance on the dealership having those on hand in January. Now, I just have to get my car to put them on.

Harley,

The good news is you have an early #; the bad news is you have an early #. We have no idea how far along the Penske supply chain is; will the dealers have trained service people, all the spares needed and a full line of accessories on 1 Jan 08? I'm guessing not. So we may be able to pick up the cars but not all the goodies at the same time. And maybe the 10K service interval is to provide time to train the service techs.

BTW, I wouldn't bother with the smart GPS; just pick up an aftermarket GPS unit for under $200 and stick it on the windshield.

You will be invited to your dealer to sign for your purchase and make a deposit. I am sure at that time you can get final pricing of your car and all dealer install options. This will happen some time before delivery when you need to pay for your car. You will be making at least two trips unless you do the signing stuff via email and snail mail. No worries, you will get your total price days/weeks before delivery.

I have a Saris Bones rack (http://www.saris.com/t-sarisFAQ.aspx?skinid=1) - I don't know for certain, but I image it'll fit a fortwo.

I've emailed Saris and asked. I hope so, so I don't have to buy a new rack.
