I had to go to N'Awlins (New Orleans, the Big Easy, surely you've heard of it?

), and back yesterday for a meeting and I decided to let Smart Aleck tag along for its first trip to the Crescent City. I ran 70-75mph there and back, 420 miles round trip, and averaged 42mpg. Which isn't bad considering that there were strooooong head winds going down, and strong crosswinds coming back, and I spent a little over two hours in hurry-up-and-wait traffic, creeping along at 2-3mph going in and coming out between Kenner, LA and downtown New Orleans.
It was a good trip. Every one of my coworkers that saw the car had a million questions, and I had nothing but loooong looks and smiles and waves while on the road. The weather in the afternoon was nice, around 65*, so I put the top down while I was creeping along.

That got some looks!

LOL!
It was a 16hr day from the time I left my driveway until I got home. I don't have cruise control, but my foot felt like it was in a natural resting position at 70-75mph. The wind was a little tiresome, especially the crosswinds up on the bridges going through the swamps, but I've dealt with much worse on my motorcycle, so it didn't really bother me. I never felt like I was going to flip over or get blown out of my lane

...LOL
Anyway, I hope this little story helps some of those that are wondering if it's worth taking a long trip in a Smartie, and how it handles out on the "Open Road". Oh, one other thing, if you have ever had trouble trying to park in the French Quarter for lunch, you REALLY need to try it in a Smart! It will fit just about anywhere you find a spot!
Hope y'all have a "smart" day!
