Does anyone have the Bike carrier for thier smart? My question is this, can you use the Bike carrier to carry a wheelchair? does anyone know if it would hold a wheelchair? Any help would be GREAT!

Bike carrier

The smart bike carrier would certainly be strong enough to hold a wheelchair. The pictures in the showroom show two mountain bikes on the carrier. Mountain bikes generally weigh 30 pounds or so, so a minimum of 60 pounds on there.

The problem is the bike carrier is $500 and the dealer said they are backordered for months.

On another thread we are discussing the idea of using the same threaded holes used by the bike rack to mount a 1 1/4" receiver hitch so that standard 1 1/4" accessories like bike racks and cargo carriers could be used.

Maybe a wheelchair could be put on one of those cargo carriers, or maybe someone makes a 1 1/4" receiver mounted wheelchair carrier?

Thanks guys,
I just wondered if the bracket that holds the wheels for the Bike, can be adjusted to hold the wheelchair.
The site you gave is alot cheaper than the smart one.
I guess I need to get my smart car first, before I worry about the add-on's..LOL then again, I can just tie a rope to the bumper, and sit in the wheelchair and get pulled around town that way...LoL

About wheelchairs, check this thread:
Need space for a wheelchair!
Maybe it has some answers that may inspire you? I sure hope so!

North American base rack is available with slightly simpler installation.

Install a hitch and then use a wheelchair carrier designed for one. eg:

I have the Smart bike rack, Yes it will hold the wheelchair. If you wanted too you could probably stand on it and bounce the car. I will try to post a picture of mine soon.

I looked at the bike rack. Over $500.00!?#@!!!!!? Five hundred plus bucks for a bike rack? I would rather set fire to my armpits first? Anyone have one they will sell for a few hundred bucks?
